The pilot of a small plane was injured in a fiery crash Friday morning in Burlington County, New Jersey, according to officials.

The crash involving a two-seat plane was reported shortly after 9 a.m. in an open field next to the north end of the runway at Flying W Airport & Resort (N14), a private airport in Medford.

Lt. Christopher Cheesman said the pilot was airlifted to a nearby hospital and was alert and conscious at the time of transport. There were no other people on board.

Cheesman said the plane was smoldering and had caught fire, but did not provide any further details.

SkyForce 10 footage showed multiple first responders surrounding the wreckage of the small aircraft, which appeared to have broken into several pieces in the crash.

The NTSB and the FAA will handle the investigation.
